Die-Cut Double-Sided Tape with Automatic Assembly: Precision and Industrial Quality

In these long years spent in the world of adhesives, we have seen customer needs evolve, becoming increasingly specific.

At first, only simple cuts were requested, then die-cutting to design came, followed by customized liners… and today?
Today, assembly is the real protagonist.

“Ready to use” double-sided tapes: why are they increasingly in demand?

The production of custom-sized die-cut adhesive tapes aims to make their application on specific components easier.
Traditionally, this step is performed by the final customer during part assembly. However, more and more often, we are asked to supply double-sided tapes already positioned and ready to use.

Why? There are several concrete reasons:

  • Unsuitable surface: dirty or not properly prepared for adhesion

  • Improper handling: inadequate ambient temperature, insufficient pressure, formation of air bubbles, or contamination during liner removal

  • Incorrect positioning: difficulty centering the double-sided tape precisely

  • Labor costs, increasingly significant

From our point of view, with over 30 years of experience, we have often noticed that apparent malfunctions of the double-sided tape were actually due to incorrect positioning.

The solution: automatic assembly of double-sided tapes

To eliminate these problems, a few months ago we started working on a dedicated machine capable of positioning the double-sided tape on the parts, thus providing the customer with a product completely ready to use.

The assembler

Our automated die-cutting machine, the “Pick & Place,” was developed internally for BMP.
It is designed to pair the customer-supplied parts with die-cut double-sided tapes on rolls, thanks to a latest-generation optical centering system.

How does it work?

  • Tape loading: the roll with die-cut double-sided tapes is loaded at the start of the line

  • Rotating dispenser: customer parts are loaded into a rotating system

  • Controlled vibration: the pieces are guided to the manipulator

  • Pick & Place: the manipulator picks up and applies the parts onto the double-sided tape

  • Visual check: a photocell verifies the presence of the tape

  • Final cutting: a guillotine cuts the silicone paper, leaving the pieces ready for use

Precision and efficiency

The manipulator can move linearly, rotate, and detect whether the adhesive is present.
As a result, it produces a roll of silicone paper on which the parts are neatly arranged in sequence.

Subsequently, a guillotine cuts the paper, leaving individual pieces that are easy to peel and immediately ready for use.

Benefits of automatic tape placement

Thanks to the speed of execution, we can offer assembled parts at significantly lower costs compared to manual application.

Moreover, the precision of the system ensures perfect tape placement, completely eliminating positioning issues.

The machine’s work cycle is programmable and highly adaptable to various applications and supply needs.

In short: it works brilliantly.
