Open-Close Fasteners
These are tapes made of plastic material or synthetic fibers shaped so as to have protruding parts that fit together. These products can have a male-female configuration in which the two surfaces to be joined are different from each other, or male-male in which there is only one surface. The most common systems have well-known names and registered trademarks: DUAL LOCK®, SCOTCHMATE®, VELCRO®.
When to use open-close fastening systems?
- in all setup situations where the rapid positioning of signs, curtains, coverings, panels, padding, and their equally rapid removal is necessary;
- in light panelling, whatever their function in architecture, construction or on means of transport, in order to allow for easy removal and repositioning;
- in the positioning of panels for thermal and acoustic insulation and filtering systems, but also in that of comfort padding for seats installed in public environments or means of transport as well as in the office and home furnishing sector;
- in technical clothing for leisure and work, both as an alternative to strings, laces and buttons for closures and adjustments, and for the positioning of additional mobile protections.
Bumpers
The bumpers are made of non-slip and scratch-resistant plastic material. The adhesive on one side allows for simple and quick application.
The adhesive rubber pads are used as non-slip, anti-vibration support feet and spacers. They absorb shocks, noise and vibrations. The felt variants allow slipping while maintaining protective and anti-scratch properties.
To allow their adhesion to all possible substrates, the spacer feet are available with natural rubber, acrylic or hot-melt adhesive. 3M Bumpons™ are part of this product family.
These are shockproof polyurethane rubbers, adhesive and of various sizes, made with three-dimensional shaping which gives them additional design or functional characteristics. They have excellent anti-slip, anti-vibration and anti-scratch properties. The same polyurethane in the transparent and colored variants is also available in rolls to create customized anti-slip protectors.
Cloths and Adhesive Flocks
Adhesive cloths and flocks are products used to create anti-friction and/or anti-scratch profiles and components.
They are available in various qualities and colors for their visible use as seals or finishing coatings (for example in the automotive sector).
The cloths can be customized both in color and type of adhesive.
Cleaners and Primers
Among the various solvents that can be used for cleaning and degreasing application surfaces, the most suitable for manual use is a liquid product based on isopropyl alcohol available both in single-dose wipes and in bottles.
Even if carefully degreased, low surface energy substrates have poor receptivity to adhesive bonds. To prepare these materials for bonding, if it is not possible to use physical systems (abrasion, corona treatment or plasma), adhesion promoters are used.
These products are specifically formulated chemicals, supplied in liquid form, which, when applied to surfaces, form a molecular layer capable of bonding to the adhesive. Among the best-known products BMP markets:
- 3M Primer 4298UV: for general purpose uses, detectable when exposed to ultraviolet rays;
- 3M Primer 94: ideal for plastics. Available in various formats including the 0.66 ml “cigarette”;
- 3M Silane Glass Primer: specific for glass. Eliminates the humidity responsible for detaching the adhesive.
Dispenser and Applicators
To facilitate and speed up the application of single and double-sided adhesives, in some cases it is possible to use specific devices.
BMP has applicators:
- manuals for single-sided tapes (with and without liner);
- manuals for transfer-reverse (3M Scotch® ATG 700);
- benchtop manuals that allow you to use portions of adhesive tape with just one hand. There are versions with multiple magazines;
- semi-automatic benchtop machines for cutting tape to size that produce segments of tape at calibrated sizes and automatically.
