Profile Reader for Quality Control: Precision and Reliability at BMP
Along with the achievements, with the attainment of IATF certification in 2021, many new procedures arrived. These mainly concern production processes and quality controls.
Among other things, the certification requires precision in feasibility analyses. It also demands errors to be minimized during production and very rigorous dimensional controls.
To meet these needs, we introduced a new profile reader into our machine park.

The measuring device can detect all dimensions optically. For 3D parts or thicknesses, it works by contact. Its accuracy is about 4 microns. Therefore, it measures distances, radii, diameters, linearity, center distances, and more. Additionally, it can perform a profile analysis of the die-cut based on a CAD drawing.
Once a program is set, it automatically detects and measures multiple pieces with a single click. The data is stored and linked to the batch. Then, it is statistically analyzed for common control indices such as Cp, Cpk, and sigma.
Moreover, the reader automatically displays both the statistical distribution and an X-R control chart.

This way, it is possible to correctly measure the dimensions and the process capabilities. Also, a more accurate feasibility analysis during project development helps us communicate to the customer the tolerances that can be guaranteed.
In production, the reader is used to obtain final approval before industrialization. It also performs intermediate checks to catch any process deviations.
For example, it can easily verify the frequency of a potentially harmful event. Then, it helps establish if the monitoring frequency should stay the same or be reduced.
In short, it is true that four eyes see better than two. However, a digital eye sees better than all!
