BMP was born in 1992 as a third party processing company. 30 years ago we were mainly involved in cutting and rewinding materials owned by our customers … and today?
Today we are equipped with 5 lathes whose functions are divided as follows:
1) TRANSFORMATION or CONVERTING: just like in the beginning, lathes can be used to cut materials owned by customers who buy or produce large logs but not having the possibility to convert them independently at competitive costs.
2) SALE of FINISHED PRODUCTS: in this case, BMP purchases the raw material from the supplier and takes care of cutting and reselling it to the end user. This solution is ideal for customers not having the possibility to purchase the rolls directly from the manufacturer (often because of too large MOQ) or, simply, for those who need to buy small quantities of customized rolls, such as, for example, a private customer who wants to buy through our e-commerce.
3) INTERNAL PROCESSING: here we can find the cuts that are made in our production department to reduce the size of the rolls and prepare them to die-cutting processes. Most of the die-cutting machines have a work surface that varies from 175 to 700 mm, in this case, the large rolls must be reduced.
The lathe itself is a machine with a rather simple operation: a large rotating blade, constantly sharpened, cuts a roll which is fixed on a shaft which, in turn, rotates.
As often happens, a simple process may not necessarily be free from traps.
In our case, the most important variable is the nature of the material: plastic films, foam tapes, thin double-sided adhesives, acrylic foams, bonded/laminated materials, fibers, metals… each material reacts in its own way to the blade.
And this is why at BMP we invest so much in technology and staff: human experience combined with the innovation of the machine are the perfect combo for the success of a cutting operation.
Some of our lathes are perfect for cutting thin double-sided adhesives and plastic films, others are ideal for cutting foams, still others for the most difficult materials (such as fibers and metals).
The operator’s experience and the efficiency of the machine guarantee cutting precision with tolerances below half a millimeter.
The competence of our operators is required not only during processing but also in the design of customized machinery for our needs. This is the case of the “Revolver lathe”, a particular cutting tool with two shafts instead of one.
Thanks to the double shaft, while the blade is cutting, the operator can perform other tasks such as loading a new reel on the free shaft or unloading the already cut rolls. This allows to avoid the classic “dead times” allowing the operator to optimize his work. The machine gains in efficiency and productivity by offering us the possibility of guaranteeing customers more competitive prices.
